Couple Coppers...

RyanT Apr 27, 2005 05:07 PM

This is my best looking adult male Southern. He's from the South Carolina. I've had him for over 3 years and still can't find a female worthy of being bred to him. He's big too. At least 3 feet but never actually measured.

He's so hard to photograph but I'm getting a little better. This is the one mentioned in a couple posts below. TX locale. Can't wait till he grows up.

I know it's blurry but the last time he shed, the skin on his whole head stayed on. You can make it out curled at the end of his nose. I got it off the rest of him with misting and all the usual tricks but the piece on his head won't give up. Guess I might have to physically handle him soon which I always try to avoid. Especially babies. But nothing else is working.

Thanks for the pictures, you have some very nice looking copperheads. I wouldn't worry about the skin on the head and perhaps pay extra attention for when the next shed cycle is beginning. Start all the humidity tricks again and hopefully it will come off with the rest. If you have a hot herp vet (hard to find, I know, but something every pet owner should have) then some isoflorane anesthetic will allow for proper debridement if this becomes a problem. This route would be secondary to passive misting, and moreso if you do not feel comfortable restraining a hot near the head. The risks to the snake are minimal.

start at the flipped up piece on the snout & peel. Giving him a little mist w/ a spray bopttle might be a good idea before you peel.
