My mali's tail

Clearwatergirl99 Apr 27, 2005 05:59 PM

I have owned a mali uromastyx for five years. Around the time of my lizard's last shed, many of the spines on her tail appear to have worn off. I thought she had just been rubbing, but I'm not so sure. There is one spine that appears to be getting sort of hollow. Does she have a tail rot? b/c I dont really give her any baths and if I do, I try to dry her off thoroughly. Has anyone else experienced this?

Sometimes if there is shed on the tail that doesn't come off for a long long time the points on the tail underneath can erode. I had this problem with my mali. The spikes will not grow back, but as long as there is no red, raw areas there is probably nothing to be concerned about either. Just try to make sure the tail sheds thtoroughly every time.

If this doesn't sound like what is happening, a picture may help us help you!

I think that might be the cause b/c she does seem to take a long time shedding the tail. There is currently a piece that is still strongly attached, but has been trying to come off for weeks. What can I do to help her remove it besides baths, b/c I know I shouldn't try pulling it off? Thanks for your information.

try rubbing some mineral oil on it. usually mineral oil can be found in the laxative section at a drug store but all it is is liquid vasoline. i rescued helga and she had many layers on her tail and it helped alot
