Is it worth paying over $1000 for an albino if I don't want to breed?

silenthill Apr 27, 2005 07:09 PM

I just want one as a pet, not to breed. I don't know if its worth the money, since I can't make it back by breeding. I'm also afraid the price will drop in a couple of years. Anyone out here that bought one just as a pet?

how bad you want a yellow snake for a pet and how bad you are willing to spend $1000 on a pet . all depends on you . and if its for a pet why would you care about price goin up or down ?

My view is if i want something i dont mind paying for it. If you want an albino buy an albino. The price is going to drop in a few years, but its not going to be that much with all the morphs people are working with...

you want it? buy it.

If you spend the money now and you raise the snake up to adult age and size, A female would sell for about $3500.00 and a male would sell for about $2500.00 so it could be one of the best investments you can make. So if you ever get in a jam for money you could always sell it someone will always want to start right away in breeding. I would recommend getting the best looking one you can preferably stripe line they look so much better and hold there color into adult hood better

I bought one as a pet but I only paid 650 for it because it had "no eyes" (they were their but just malformed) but he was already about three feet so it wasnt affecting his quality of life any and he is as healthy as can be, plus he was a "coral". Some people will frown on it for being deformed but I think it was the best purchase I ever made. Its up to you, Ive always just wanted an albino boa for myself and dont have any real plans on breeding,at least not yet, but yeah, i bought mine as pet and was willing to pay for it. it really matters on the person... Albino boas with no eyes should only be kept as pets and breeding them should NOT EVEN BE A THOUGHT. Well at least people now know that if in the future you advertise hets. for albino or albinos, not to buy from you. I can't believe you are even considering it! If you want to potentially breed then you need to start off with healthy animals. That is why most credible breeders will only keep and offer great looking and healthy albinos, I'm sorry my friend but everyone that reads your post will discredit you as a breeder.

He just said that he is not interested in breeding right now, but may want to breed in the future. I did not get the idea that he was being specific to the albino boa.

I understand you not wanting to pay top dollar for a boa, but if not interested in breeding why would state "I don't know if it’s worth the money, since I can't make it back by breeding." and why would it matter if the price drops? I am a firm believer that if you are going to buy something..... then buy the best! When people want something just for eye value then a return of investment is not really a question you should be asking. After all if you are buying the boa as a pet than this means you are keeping it for life, not just until you tire of it and try to resell it. If you are looking for a top notch pet, if you do your homework, you may find a quality boa at a reasonable price…. in the end you may not be able to resist temptation to breed and you will have a good foundation animal to work with. Many people here will work with you and allow you some type of payment plan; in the end you will be happy with an A grade boa.
