Locale Splendida/Holbrooki intergrades...

jlassiter Apr 27, 2005 08:58 PM

Since many people have been posting Holbrooki I thought I would snap some pics of my Splendida/Holbrooki intergrades. I collected these a few years ago in Aransas and Nueces Counties. The females bred for the first time this year. I have yet to find a male Aransas Co., TX specimen so I bred the Nueces Co. male to her....just a county away....LOL
Here is the female Aransas Co., TX specimen. She has yet to have her pre egg laying shed cycle, but she is swollen with eggs.
Thanks for looking,
John Lassiter

The Nueces Co.,TX female is opaque right now so I did not bother to take any pics of her......She will lay after this shed. Here is the Nueces Co.,TX male that should sire the clutches of each female.
He is rather dark for Splendida in this area, but does have some speckles on him (especially the head) that is characteristic of intergrade Splendida/Holbrooki from my area. I believe most pure Splendida have solid black heads.
Thanks for looking again..

Last year I had the same problem, but it was with the Aransas Co. female....I think she may have been a little small, but she gave in to the male this year.

Does your Splendida/Holbrooki have a specific locale? It looks like some I have seen a bit north of here, around Calhoun Co.
My buddy Todd has a male that would pair up with her nicely. It is from Calhoun Co.,TX.

Nice snake Mark...I love the yellow on these guys...I wish the ones around here were as nice...

Here is an old shot of my Nueces Co. female. They seem to be darker and have more Splendida characteristics here in Nueces Co.

Ya know many of the Lavender Specks seem to have a very similar pattern. I like the look on both snakes.....cool stuff Tom Stevens

I have noticed that too.
I often wondered why there aren't any albino or lavender holbrooki that are evenly speckled...also wouldn't a nice yellow/orange in lavender, amel or whitesided? Or any combination of each.....You know what I am getting at, eh?
I would love to see a nice albino, Houston area Speck like the ones Scott posted below and before. I also wonder if the yellow would carry over into the lavenders or the whitesideds??
I guess we will have to find out with some experimental breeding in the not so distant future, huh?
