Dark male Thayeri....

jlassiter Apr 27, 2005 11:17 PM

I picked this male up from Don Soderberg a couple years ago....I believe he got it in a trade. Even though I am working with a few reduced black thayeri I kinda like the BLACK on this one. I guess I have mixed feelings, eh?

This one has a nice black head and you gotta love the neuchal marking....

John,
You've posted that dark male thayeri before and there's something about him, he's just a stunningly visual snake. Maybe it's the dark and light contrast all over the body. I really like this one. Year by year I know I will be aquiring more and mexicanas.
Very Nice,
Uncloudy

Mixed Feelings on that one John? I know you want reduced black, but please email me first if you ever think of trading or selling your dark male thayeri........

You are correct...I think the thing is this: I want to produce a "no black" thayeri. I do, though, really like the black on thayeri. I just want to produce one withouth the black.....LOL
I just confused myself....LOL

Ya I agree John. Even though the reduced black is its own kind of beauty, I think that that black adds a kind of contrast that's just hard to beat. Alot of the really cool stuff we like about thayeri like keyholes saddles just aren't possible without that contrasting black. Plus it gives them a nice wild look too. It's hard to beat.

Here's one that doesn't get much attention. I love the black that really sets off her other colors. I plan on breeding her with my Dan V. keyholed male next year.

I plan on matching up the "sharktooth" with this little girl next year. I'm hoping to get some nice yellow leonis out of the pairing. Her mother and his father were both yellow leonis. She's another one that has some nice contrasting black.

Thanks for looking.

Those should make some nice yellow offspring....I hope you get a yellow one with a red head...Now that would be something!!!

I can't believe I am thinking of next year already....what is wrong with me??????....LOL

Dude that all I'm thinking of is next year. LOL
I mean I wish everyone well but I'm going stir crazy hearing and seeing everyone post about their mexicana projects.
I've got my high white cal kings that should start laying eggs hear in the next ten days or so but its the thayeri I'm going nuts thinking about. I'm trying to stay content just feeding and caring for em & getting them ready for next year.

Very unusual Jim.
I wonder what she looked like as a hatchling.
I think it is a strong case of grey speckling characteristic of Thayeri's version of ontogenetic change...
Great snake. I don't think there is a thayeri out there that I don't like.

My buddy Vic has one simular to that one. She is in the blue now but I'll get a pic after she sheds. Its funny that he picked this one because he had the chance to pick what I considered some much more colorful specimens. She's only about half grown so I think she will get even darker.

Nice looking thayeri, clutch/Jim.
