snow corn question

phiber_optikx Apr 28, 2005 03:03 AM

is it easy or hard to tell when a snow is about to go blue? she seems a little pale but I am unsure as to if she is going blue. eyes arent glazed but seem vaugely dull but still very red. So I guess my question is this... is it blatently obvious when a snow is about to shed or not? pic isn't of her now... just love shwing her off!

Not as easy as with other snakes. The best clue is to watch the eyes - they'll have a whitish look to them as opposed the the dark pink/red normal look. Hope that helps.

Yes, snow's are much harder to tell. I've had mine for nearly 8 years and sometimes its still news to me when I wake up and he just shed.

>>I didn't really notice the names of your snakes when we were conversing on the breeders page.
I also have a Strider, Aragorn, Gimli and Frodo.
I used to have a Bilbo but he apparently really did go with the Elves. He got out of his box and I haven't seen him since.
I also have an Arwen, a Pippin, Elrond, Smeagol, Shelob, and a Samwise (Sam) and Rosie (Sam's wife).

I just still prefer to give them names. At least the ones I plan on keeping anyway. And finding a theme like The Lord Of The Rings makes it even easier.

I also went with "cold" names for my snows: Glacier, Frosty and Yeti.

sorry to ramble....LOL

LOL! I was having a hard time coming up with names I liked so I figured a theme would help. I went with LOTR with the boids, favorite characters from favorite tv shows & movies for the lizards and the colubrids are named after endangered species/habitats, etc. I had a Legolas (rosy boa) and an Arwen (Roughscaled Sand Boa), but sold them both. Frodo is also for sale.

Great minds think alike eh?

Sometimes it is quite obvious to me when one of my snows is going to shed and sometimes I miss it.
If I happen to go a couple of days without handling one of my snows and it goes through the "bluest" period over those particular days, I just might miss it.
There are times when the eyes just get a little lighter red (pink) and not really blue so it can be a little deceiving.

Nice snow! I know it is extremely dependant on the parents... But how common is the yellow color in snows? extremely or just depends on if their parents had it?

It really does "just depend".
I have three snows and they look distinctively different.
You have frosty posted above with lots of yellow and pink with a touch of green around the saddles.
Then there is Glacier who is almost completely white. She has a little yellow down her nexk but not much and no pink. The yellow on her neck usually shows up more yellow in photos then to the naked eye.
And then there is Yeti. she has almost no yellow or pink but when you see her in person you can see her saddles are a very very light green. Or at least have a green tint to them.
The thing is they all were your basic little pink haTCHLINGS.
Another shot of Frosty:

I really love Yeti! That is what I hope "Hope" (my snow) turns out like. Thanks for the snow corn 101!
