Matt, neat animals but the pics look a little underexposed on my monitor. What settings were you using? You can set exposure compensation by pressing the plus/minus button on the top right surface of the the D70 body while rotating the thumb command dial. Try setting it to +0.3 EV or perhaps a little more when shooting critters in dark places, especially if using the on-board flash.

It's also possible you have accidentally set the thing to underexpose with all the bumping around on your trip (in this case, you would see a negative value on that little screen on the top surface while pressing the exposure comp button).

Another option would be to use a higer ISO setting, making the sensor more sensitive to compensate for low light conditions.

I have to look at the settings for each again, but I didn't get a chance to play with the exposure compensation before I left.
