I am still trying to work the bugs (LOL) out of keeping silkworms. My problem is that some of the silkies are getting too big for my little guy. I was wondering if anyone had any success cutting the worm in half? Let me know. Thanks!

If you try cutting a silkworm in half, especially the bigger ones, you'll get an oozing mess. Lots of brown liquid inside. Sometimes when feeding silkworms it's like they burst in the beardies mouth and brown stuff squirts out. Have you ever noticed that? Sorry to be so graphic...
I do know that the "space between the beardies eyes" rule doesn't apply to silkworms. Silkworms don't have the chitin like crickets do, or the hard shells like mealworms and superworms. I feed 1 inch long silkworms to small dragons (under 12 inches long).
Have you tried letting the bigger ones cocoon and turn into moths? If not, you should look into it. Breeding silkworms isn't that much harder than keeping them.
Just need an incubator, even home made ones work.

Thanks Veronica, the way these silkies are growing I might have to try and breed them especially since I just hatched 250 more! They will be coming out of my ears!!
