Looking for a new baby beardie, info please =)

yellowfox Apr 28, 2005 01:28 PM

Hi everyone, new to the forum. I've been looking to get a baby beardie for the last month. I have his enclosure all ready. Nice hollowed out piece of wood for hiding and basking in a 55 gallon tank. I have all the lighting and heating requirements.

Couple questions, I have read some mixed emotions on substrate. Can i please get some info on this? I'm looking to get a youngin. Around 3 weeks old maybe? I found a place that is selling them for $40 and i can pick the one i want from around the 30 in the litter she has.

Another problem is the person i am looking to get them from is 4 hours away. Does anyone know any places in ohio that have reasonable pricing?

thanks for the info!

Nick

First off, I don't recommend buying a dragon that's only 3 weeks old, they should be 5-6 weeks old and at least 6". When younger dragons can easily stress out and stop eating or become dehydrated and fail to thrive.

The best substrate to use with babies is just plain paper towel. As they poop alot, papertowel is cheap and easy to replace. As dragons get older they can be switched over to washed playsand or better, non-stick shelf liner or plastic table cloth.

The kingsnake classifieds always has all kinds of dragons of various types, colors etc available.

wow i looked at the classifieds and there are TONS of beardies. I never even knew they had morphs and what not. I REALLY Like the sandfire red ones. those are really really great looking.

Whats a good cost on a color morph beardie like the sandfire red ones? Looks that most are selling them for around 200. thats a lot haha.
