POOP Question

memnoch14 Apr 28, 2005 03:45 PM

My BP is 15-18 months old. He looks extremely healthy. He came out of his winter fast and has taken 4 large mice since. I feed him every 7-10 days depending on his read. His cage has a warm side of about 89-93 and a cool side of about 75-80, the humidity is a pretty constant 55-60. For substrate I use Repti-carpet. Here is my problem he has not POOPED in over a month. Also, he has stopped using his hide box and seems to prefer the cornor of his cage on the cool side. He used to remain in the hide box until lights out, now he never goes in. I use a undertank heatpad and a heat lamp on the warm side of his tank, but like I said the temp seems to be just where it should. And he ate last Thursday. I'm really thinking about taking him to the vet. I had to take my Bearded Dragon to the vet last week for constipation as well, but that was a substrate problem. Can anyone give me some advice?

Thanks in advance for your reply

Soak him in some warm water for a couple of hours. Try this first and see what happens. If he doesn't go, we'll go from there.

If the soaking thing doesn't work, try feeding him some more mice...he will eventually go. I have had this happen a few times and it always works for me.

If he's hanging out on the cold side, hes probably not digesting very fast. Try lowering the temperatures on your hot side and see if he'll head back over there. Otherwise a good soak in warm water usually loosens things up.
