Kale is in the cabbage family and not good in large quantities.
A little now and then is OK. Better greens are collard greens,
mustard greens, turnip greens, endive lettuce, escarole lettuce.
Lots of variety is important - occasionally add some yellow squash,
zuchinni squash, green peppers, yellow peppers, banana (not
too much) and any weeds - dandelions and flowers like hibiscus -
flowers and leaves. Bermuda grass and timothy hay (many small
torts won't eat this but like to hide in it). Get a mixture
bag at a supermarket of "spring mix" or something it has a
variety of greens in it for a change also. Avoid- iceberg completely,
and don't feed romaine if you can help it - these take calcium
out of the tortoise's system. Not much spinach either, makes
them lose water.
To add calcium get a piece of cuttlebone (white thing they
sell for bird beaks) and scrape it over their food.
