live plants?

hefe Jul 11, 2003 08:19 AM

Im putting my leos into a 40 gal tank and was thinking of adding live plants. Has anyone here done that and what types of plants would be good? also what color is the sand where leos live in the wild? Thanks

Personally, I dont have live plants with my geckos. I have seen people using mini cactus and they take the spikes away. ummm...the sand, i used calci-sand.

In a 40 gallon, you could probably get away with it, but you'll need LOTS of light, and be careful to keep them away from your heat source, or you'll cook them.

I'd say that aloe is fairly safe for a desert terrarium, and you can get variegated varieties. Cacti are out, as they may injure the animals, and euphorbias are highly toxic. If you wanted to get super creative you could try to bonsai a sagebrush or something. I might try that one day. If you keep your vegetation over to the cooler, moister side of your tank, with the other side hotter and drier, it should do all right.
