I have 150 watt halogen bulbs for heat and general lighting from big apple herp which are advertised as being for "Reptiles". My question is if just regular home depot halogen bulbs are the same thing? I have all my UV with my tube lights so all that I realyl need would be the heat and I figure there is no difference in any bulb for that purpose but wanted to be sure I wasnt missing something. I ask because I screwed up and ordered 100 watt bulbs instead of 150 watt and it is more money to send back and forth then to just take the loss.

For the level of heat chams need a regular house halogen or incandescent bulb is fine. For large setups or free range I like using GE Miser outdoor porch halogen spot or floodlights. The spot has a more focused beam. You can use clamp lamp fixtures, but I usually take the aluminum reflector hood off to help dissipate the excess heat. The bulbs seem to last a bit longer if they stay cooler.

So then the bulb is purely for light and heat and can be a hardware store bought item?
Why do they sell those reptile specific halogen bulbs for 14 bucks? They claim it puts off more UVA but UVB I thought was what mattered most.
I'll go with you said and I have read before about buying a harware store light to save the money. I am pissed I wasted my money on these 100 watt bulbs. I just spaced out when I ordered them I guess.

Is a halogen light the same no matter what or are those sold for reptlies special? Can I buy a home depot halogen light for my heat and light source? I have my UV tubes so I dont think that the halogen is used for anyhting more than just heat.
