I mean fairy...
I found Vermiculite recently in the oddest of places. Go to your home depot, or Menards/Lowes. I found they sell bags of it in the artificial fireplace section. It was in small white plastic bags with the gas burners I think. I have to inquire what it is for. I simply bought a bag without asking. I'm guessing since it has that glittery appearance, that it may be used to mimick burning embers. You may have to go in a look for youself...my guess is the help you will get on the phone will be, "uhhh I don't know what Vermitight is..." Good luck finding it.
Like Eve said, your other option is Perlite which is found in the plant section. It is a tad bit harder to nest the eggs into because of its firmness, but it does have a neat quality. When you put it into a clear container, you can thoroughly moisten all of it until is is all filled with water. Then you drain all the water off that is still not absorbed. You can then put your eggs on the surface, trying to nest them in so they won't roll. Then (the neat part) You can add water slowly back into the container, and actually see the water level. Just keep the standing water an inch or so below the eggs, and you will not dry out...it is a great way to visually monitor your moisture. With Vermiculite you have to more or less keep feeling it. If you have a scale, you do have the option of weighing the water before hand, and just keeping the weight the same by adding back water as it evaporates.
Anyway...I hope that gives you some things to consider.
