Hi there! I just got my Jackson's about a month and a half ago. I have him in a glass terrarium with a screen top, but I notice that most people seem to have theirs in a screen cage. How important is this and why?

Thanks!

Oh yeah - and when using a screened cage, how does one keep the humidity in? I have a small fogger in mine.

Thanks again!

The reason that we use screen cages is to make sure that the air is circulating, Jacksons and other chameleons may get respirtory infections from "stale" humid air. To keep the humidity up you will either need to geet a misting system or make sure that you mist it by hand several times a day. I keep a few live plants in mine and that also helps to keep the humidity up. A fogger might work alright, but Jacksons like to drink the mater droplets that will form on the leaves after a good misting.

in addition i like to avoild glass or other reflective surfaces as cages because many times the chameleons will remain dark colored signaling stress. i believe this is due to seeing refelction in the glass.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the info! I will get started on a new set-up right away! )

By the way - do the misters ever flood the bottom of the cage?
Does the mist pretty much stay inside the cage? (I ask since I have a wall hanging near the cage and was wondering if I need to move it.

Thanks!!!!!

Thanks again for everyone's help. I have the misting kit on order and plan to build a nice screened cage out of PVC. I even have a ficus to put in it.
