egg postitioning

hundo188 Apr 29, 2005 12:02 AM

I found two more phant eggs this evening, but i made a bad mistake, one of the eggs is not in the same position as i found it.when i was pulling it out it roll in my spoon , my cage is so tall i have to use a spoon to fish out the eggs.the eggs were wrapped in a leaf. first time for that.. any thoughts on the egg rotation would be helpful, im usually so careful first time this happened in a lot of eggs from a lot of different species

well, with day geckos i never really had a problem with them turning slightly, but it depends on how long after she layed them did they get rotated. supposedly they can be rolled around until the embryo attaches itself. i think its generally around 24 hrs after its layed.

I know this is an accepted thought with this species, but I've had eggs rolled periodically throughout incubation all the way up to 3 days before a hatch and not had an incidence. Perhaps they are stronger than we think. That being said, I wouldnt encourage moving them on purpose.

agreed....everyone has one roll over on them time to time by accident. best thing is to do your best to keep em upright. what i started doing is marking the very tops of mine with a marker, and that comes in extremely helpful when, as in your case, the eggs are difficult to reach. just dot em on the top, pull em out, and place em back upright. good luck!

for my cresteds i initial the name of the female who laid them, and the date, for an example O-2/13
would be orangie, and the date. i use a fine tip sharpie and it has worked great.

well, sharpies say right on them " non-toxic" and i haven't had any issues with it yet.
