bairds

Do all the bairds grow to have the beautiful colors I have seen in some of the pics or can it be dependent upon who you get them from?

It depends on the adults.
Most breeders work with nice ones, though.

It's also pretty variable among individuals. I have a male and female from the same bloodline and the male has lots of color coming through and the female still shows almost none. They're not quite a year old yet, but I don't think she's going to have nearly as much color (she's the one pictured). Regardless, it's very cool to see a solid metallic gray snake.

All bairdi are attractive snakes. However, my experience is that the further west you go, the less color you get coming in between the scales and the more gray the snake is overall.

I have also noticed that most bairds from the northern parts of the range show more red, while from further south they are more yellowish. When you get into Coahuila, they are yellowish snakes with a purple/gray head. I prefer the snakes from the NE part of the range, although the ones from the easternmost boundaries are pretty nice as well.

Here's one from the NE part of the range -

I am going to have to agree with Chris, all bairdis look good.
In trith I have never seen an ugly adult bairds rat snake.
Of course I may be a little biased....LOL

Ok now you've done it! I NEED to have one of these and it just so happens I have an extra tank. Where did you get your snakes?

This is a Bandera co. Texas Bairdi. 04 male with the start of coloring coming between the scales. Huge variation between Bairdi, but I believe they're all beautiful. You could have 30 people on here post pics of their Bairdi, and no two would be identical.
