New Jackson wont eat

PhilLaCroix Apr 29, 2005 08:06 AM

Any ideas? I got her a week ago and have yet to see her eat anything. She is keeping herself hydrated from the dripper but not eating anything.

How was her food offered by the original owner? She's in a new space and may not be recognizing where to hunt for food. Chams are often reluctant to shoot out of a container if it is too small. They don't like hitting their tongues on hard surfaces. Maybe she's so preoccupied by the new "view" that she is not hunting. A healthy cham can go a week without eating much at all. Is she showing her stress colors a lot? One suggestion is to put a larger plastic bin nestled in the most secluded area of her cage so she can climb down to the rim easily, watch the insects moving around without feeling she is exposed to view, and can shoot at her leisure. If you are free ranging crix or superworms remember that they are most active at night and usually hide pretty quickly if loose in the cage.

I am not sure what her stress colors are so I cant say if she is showing them alot. I will put a container in the cage before I go back to work with some superworms in it and see if she has eaten any when I get home.

I saw where you spoke towards getting the container suggested and placing the superworms in it. I read that most commericially sold "superworms" were infused with growth hormones of some type and that is was not a good idea to feed those. Waxworms witha good diet and crickets with same were suggested. I am no expert just was looking for help of my own and wanted to tell you this.
