Housing question

I have a baby that I got around Easter, and he/she is currently in a 10 gallon, but in such a small space I'm having a hard time establishing a heat gradient of more than a degree or two. I plan to go ahead and move him/her up to a 20 gallon, but I can't decide which type. A 20-high would give him/her more room to climb, but with a 20-long it would be easier to establish the proper temps. Does anyone know how easy it is to establish a gradient in a 20-high? And out of curiosity, about how long will he/she be able to live in a tank of this size before I need to upgrade again? Then I'm going to be stuck with an empty aquarium that needs to be filled... oh darn

A 10 ga tank should be more then big enough for a baby, what are you heating it with?

Hi there,

I'm using a 29 gallon tank (30" x 12" x 18" for my 28" rainbow boa, and she really appreciates all the room - cruises around almost every night. (Just make sure there's lots of hiding places!) I heat it using only a 11"x11" Ultratherm UTH, and have 90% of the top covered. This gives me a gradient of about 70-80 degrees (give or take). I find that this arrangement is working out rather well for her. Hope that helps!
