I'll never get used to seeing snakes feed on other snakes. Or lizards for the manner. I actually like gartersnakes over ringnecks myself, but you gotta eat somehow

I had a green anaconda that was stuck on eating snakes. I watched her and a gerter battle for 6 hours before I got bored and left. I am sure she could have eaten it but from seeing her later feeding patterns she was waiting till I left the room. In the meantime the garter put up an incredible fight and there was one point when they were locked up like they were ready to mate. It was kind of sad to see but even with only a thin grip on the garters tail with her tail..the garter could not get loose. It was certainly sad to see how hard the garter was working and the anaconda would only make a few small moves an hour to keep the snake restrained. I too like garters and it is not something I like to see. Very smart little things, just not good fighters (especially in an anaconda weight class). I am just glad I got that green to eat ft unscented rats after a year and a half of work.

I have used probably hundreds of garters over the last 2 years as feeders for a couple different species, and I've only ever seen a couple of them fight back. Against a regal, they don't have a chance, once they are bit, they may escape but the venom is going to kill them in less than 10 minutes anyways.
