and yet another genetic question

ViciousEnvy Apr 29, 2005 07:21 PM

I've kept ball pythons and now a burm among other things but would like to get into breeding balls. As well I love pieds and was looking for a cheap, although along term way to get into the game so..
Im under the impression that if you breed a 100% het pied male to a normal female you will get all normal looking offspring. Of these, if correct, I believe you should recive half het pieds, and half normals. or, at least its a 50/50 crap shoot about genetics for the gene. So if one of the offspring were a female het, and she was breed to the 100% het father she should have all pied babies. or would it be 50/50 or something else? (still trying to figure out the genetics)
thanks for all the help it is greatly appreciated.

If the female was genetically het for pied and you bred her to the 100% het father you would get (theoretically) 1 pied, two het for pied and a normal but since you would be able to tell which were the hets or normals they would be 66%ers. If the female was not genetically het for pied you'd get 50%ers.
