feeding crickets

If I am going to feed my leo crickets, do the crickets need to be alive? Is a diet of just crickets ok? Thanks.

Yes, they need to be alive, in most cases. Most critters don't have the gumption to eat something not moving. You can feed a diet of all crickets. I know some breeders that do, but you can also supplement with mealworms or wax worms. Just watch when feeding mealies to juveniles. The skin is really tough and hard to digest for them, and they aren't digested right, it can cause more harm than good. I wouldn't feed mealies to anything but sub adults (or critters over 6 inches). Stick to waxies for your juvies if you want to add some spice to their diet.

Don't forget to leave a dish of dust in the tank with your geckos too. That way they get the vitamins and minerals they need.

I really want a leo, but my parents are hesitant about letting live "food" in the house. Does anyone have any experiance with feeding dead crickets to their leo? Thanks.
