Can Rabbits Harm Snakes???

Misskiwi67 Apr 30, 2005 10:06 AM

We've got a debate going on in another forum about weather or not rabbits can harm snakes when fed live. Those look like some pretty powerful legs to me, but nobody can come up with any examples of when anything has gone wrong... so is it ok to feed rabbits live??

Forget about the legs.....What about the TEETH! I'm pretty sure rabbits can bite if they have to...right? Why take the chance unless the snake will not accept pre-killed?

I'm sure that many many people can give you examples of how they fed live rabbits to their snakes with no problem at all. I am also sure that rabbits can and will bite an attacking snake from time to time, inflicting perhaps serious injury.

Some people will continue to feed live no matter what you tell them. They have to find out the hard way. Duffy

Not only can the rabbit hurt the snake, it may well kill it. If the snake is'nt hungry and decides to ignore the rabbit, the rabbit may panic and attack the snake in an effort to escape. There is no reason to feed live animals to snakes or any reptile. F/T is best, but if I have to break a rabbit's neck before feeding it to my snake, so be it. Don't take the chance, feed pre-killed prey only.

Feeding live animals does nothing but put your snake, and yourself in danger. You see with large snakes, if you feed them live prey, your snake will almost CERTAINLY be much more aggressive, even towards you. If the snake is smaller then the rabbit will easily kill it or maim it, enough said.
