are young beardies a bit spacey?

lele Apr 30, 2005 01:07 PM

Darwin sometimes seems to be gazing off into space and not see anything. Sort of hard to describe - other than spacey ;-/

He also seems to nap a lot. Now what I mean by "nap" is just having his eyes closed; he is often sitting up while he is doing it. He is fine in every other way - drink, east, poop, alert, basking, fine being handled, etc.

Forgive my "newbieness" but I have only had him a few weeks and being used to chams these may just be perfectly normal for a young guy (2 1/2 months) and I just need reassurance.

thanks!

Smaug does that too and he's perfectly healthy...he sits up and closes both or just one eye...I've taken up winking back at him...he also seems to stare into space but who knows, they could actually just be looking at something that just isn't moving...the funniest thing is he loves spying on my son...he can just see into my sons room from one corner of his tank...he really enjoys sitting and looking into his room when he doesn't shut the door all the way...

His tank is just outside my (home) office in the hall and he will sometimes be on the ground looking in at me!

Good to know! What has been a strange adjustment too, is since chams can look at two different things at the same time, they are always looking at SOMETHING and pick up the slightest motion therefore, their eyes are often moving - or at least one! So it took me a while to know where to hold Darwin's food (greens) for him to see them and grab them. he was probably thinking "what the heck is she holding it over there for? I can't get it and barely see it!" LOL

thanks!

lele & Darwin (he's happy I have a place to go and learn stuff )

from what I understand, they can see straight on but if they really want to see something well they'll turn their heads so the side of their heads is facing the object since the eyes are located on the side of the head this is my first lizard so I have spent quite alot of time on needless worry...they sure do keep you on your toes...
