Breeding Question

kozmo02 Apr 30, 2005 01:34 PM

I want to breed some of my females soon, i have 2 in one tank and 2 in another tank and i want to introduce a male to both tanks, the only problem is that there are potted ficus trees in both setups.

i dont really want to remove them, do you think if i provide an egg box they will lay in the box, i dont want them to lay in the plant pots.

If they can dig in the pots they certainly might try .I would place the the egg box in the enclosure and come up with a cover or rocks around the plant. You will have a few months after you introduce the male. Even if you didnt prevent them from laying in the plants you would see them start digging a day or two before they lay. They are not very neat when they dig. Good Luck

"Not very neat" is putting it kindly. I always see the sphagnum moss which I have covering the damp peat moss in the nest box flung all over the place for a night or two before they lay the eggs. I like it because it alerts me to keep an eye out if I want to know which female is laying.
