Baby Came Back!

LdyPayne Apr 30, 2005 02:37 PM

Just want to tell you all about a recent experience I had with my rainbow boa.

Wednesday night, I put my rainbow boa into the sink to soak, as she has mites and I wanted to drown all that were on her while I clean out her cage. I checked on her and she was happily soaking in the sink, not evening moving other than flicking her tongue. I left for about 30 seconds to toss out the bag with the old substrate in the garbage chut which is about 15' away from my door. Came back and my snake was no longer in the sink. Searched the entire bathroom, in every nock and cranny I could get my index finger in and didn't find the snake. Search the closets, and pretty much my entire apartment. Still no sign of my snake.

After spending three hours searching, feeling exhausted, dirty and frustrated, I went to bed. Next day I had to work, not having time to search some more. Came back late evening and took out some frozen rats to feed my other snakes. When I came back to the sink to get the thawed rats, lou and behold, my rainbow snake was sitting coiled up behing the lotion dispensor. So I snatched her up and put her back into her cage, gave it a good misting and turned the UTH back on so she can warm up.

No clue where she was hiding all day, cause I did check behind that lotion dispensor several times. I suspect the smell of thawing rats drew her out from where ever she was hiding. I didn't feed her thursday as I wanted her to have time to settle and warm up. She ate fine last night when I offered her a rat fuzzy.

Moral of the story, when you soak your snake, put them in a container with a lid LOL.

I'm glad you found her/him so quickly....when I recently discovered an escapee it took quite a while longer to find her.
