Gecko bored with food???

chibicricket Apr 30, 2005 02:38 PM

I little bit ago, I posted a reply to someone asking if it was normal for their leo to hang out in their waterbowl, and I thought it was, because recently, my leo started doing the same. I'm giving her pedialyte and stuff, and I've also noticed that she won't touch her crickets. The vet that I take her to said she might be bored and to try mealies. Well, unfortunately, she's not interested in those either. All she will eat are waxworms, and I don't know how to get her to switch back to something more nutritious. Any suggestions?

I've heard that sometimes when you switch the gutloading feed of crickets to something the leo doesn't like, she won't eat them. I have recently also done this. I was giving my bulk supply fruits and veggies, but switched to a store bought gutloading feed. Is there any truth to this, or is it a myth? In any event, I'm switching back to fruits and veggies.

I've also heard that there are some vitamin dusts that geckos love the taste of and will eat whatever bug you put the dust on. If this is true, which dust seems to work the best? I have two seperate brands right now, Zoomed and RepCal, and neither seems to be great tasting.

And, are there any other insects that are good as a staple diet, besides roaches?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Once they're hooked on waxies, it is hard to get them off. It is too bad, they are nutritions worms, just too fatty.

You can try silkworms and butterworms. Those are very nutritious. Mine never took on to roaches, they were a waste of money. Besides, the freaking things were always climbing out of the tank.

And just put your waxie in teh bowl, maybe just one, with other worms so the scent spreads and maybe he starts eating other worms too "by mistake"
