Regurj? Why?

gopedrcr2005 Apr 30, 2005 03:53 PM

ok i looked in my hypo red tail's cage and there was something. it looked like a regurj but it was very small, didnt smell, and wasn't goopy or wet. it was like the size of a small rat pink. the last time he ate was exactly a week ago. could it still be a regurj, and if so what could be the reasons for him doing this?

It ate about 1 week ago... very doubtfull that this is a regurgitation.
It doesn't smell... very doubtfull that this is a regurgitation.

So, the to possibilities are that this is an abnormal stool (figureing that if it was normal, you would have recognized it), or it is a much post-poned regurgitation. The stool possibility should have a patient approach, with feeding as regular and watching for the next stool. If abnormal, take a fresh sample to the vet for diagnostics (with your snake). If this is regurgitation your boa is either very very sick to have regurg'd something from the upper intestine, or it's metabolism is very, very slow and it still came from the stomach.
All possibilities are most likely related to husbandry, and specifically too cool of temperatures. Disease cannot be ruled out yet though, and cryptosporidium, and IBD are two of the scarier possibilities.

To summerize, I wouldn't panic. Reassess your husbandry, keep on your regular feeding schedule, and monitor for future problems. If this is a one time thing, or something that obviously reflected a flaw in your husbandry, then the problem will be gone without more consideration. If it continues, then proceed to a veterinarian for workup.

A regurge will have a very bad smell to it almost like really bad foot odor. Your boa probably took a crap and next time this happens I would store it in a ziplock bag in the fridge until you can get it to a vet so a fecal exam can be done. I really dont think you have much to worrie about but I really do recomend a fecal exam. Good luck and keep us posted
