Shedding

Burmaboy Apr 30, 2005 07:54 PM

As a long time keeper of large constrictors, I recently fell in love with Nelson's Milks.
I have purchased an albino, and a het for albino...
The albino just finished shedding. Yet I cannot find the shed skin anywhere in the cage.
The reds all lost color, the eyes were glazed over. By the end of this past week, the eyes were clear, the colors were back, and the snake was moving about the cage hunting. Ate 5 small mice last night.
Yet no skin!!
Has this happened to anyone here? Is this something about milks that I was'nt aware of?
Just curious.

bob, i'm just guessing, but i think the most logical explanation is that it simply hasn't shed yet. Milks (and other colubrids to the best of my knowledge) go "blue" but then clear up a day or so before shedding. For this reason i always record when i observe a "blue" animal, so that i don't several days later see it looking bright and clear and forget that it is, in fact, still in shed. My milks usually take about six days to shed after the first show "blue"--let me know what happens with yours.

I was actually thinking maybe she was'nt really "in blue".
Is it common for them to eat so much before a shed? My constrictors do so on occasion, but those are the young and rapidly growing ones.
She's been in blue about a week now. I've raised her humidity a teeny bit.
I'll just have to wait and see what happens.
Thanks for the response!

My honduran's eyes generally turn blue, then clear up while their coloration turns darker and darker till the reds are almost a grayish pink. One of my tangerines is like that now, and has been for almost a week. They then clear up to the point that it looks like they never were in that blue stage. So I'd assume it's still in shed, but post if it sheds or not.

As all of you told me...within two days, my Nelsoni shed.
I have never owned a snake that had such an appetite during a shed! Not even my burms!
I learned something new here, and that's what the forums are for.
Now I once again have a richly colored albino once again...till next month or so.
Thanks all!
