I personally use non-stick shelf liner. You can find it at Wal-Mart, Dollar Tree...etc. It comes in a variety of designs and is super easy to keep clean. The best is Duck brand. There are a lot of people here who recommend it. Lots of people also use playsand..but I find it too much of a pain. So I just use the shelf liner and have a large kitty pan with sand in my male's tank. My female is still too young for sand, which brings up the question of how old yours is? Young dragons can be kept on shelf liner, paper towel, newspaper. You can use sand with older dragons...(NEVER calci-sand...or calci-death as I call it). Good luck!

It seems to have fallen out of favor here, probably because it can be dusty. I have also *heard* that it can harbor mold/mildew...or maybe it was fungus?... but I haven't had that experience (that I can see, anyway).
Kiana likes to push it around and dig in it, poop pretty much just clumps up in it making it very easy to remove, and it looks pretty natural. Crickets also don't move very quickly in it!
I wouldn't use it if I had very many beardies, but with just one, in a large enclosure, it's pretty nice.
Beardies can be kept successfully on all kinds of substrates. I personally like soil/dirt/sand. They will dig and burrow and it does not require changing every day. People use lots of others substrates too (paper towels, newspaper, shelf liner). I do use paper towels for young and baby dragons but I like a natural substrate for older dragons. It is really a question of how well it meets the needs of your dragon(s) and your needs as a keeper.
Good luck,
Ian
