my uroplatus collection is complete! (for now)

umop_apisdn Apr 30, 2005 08:18 PM

i put the finishing touches on my uroplatus collection for now. as many of you can tell, i recently obtained a male corkbark from reptile depot, and he's getting better by the day. today i got another female mossy at the reptile show here in raleigh, saw joe (jadrig) who i got the chance to meet and chat with for a few hours about a week or two ago. also saw a lot of people oohing and aahing at the various leaftails at the show, which included henkels (a pair from LLL), satanics, mossies, lineds, and giants. i was thinking if i found some cheap ebenaui i might get some, but there werent any around this time. so heres the lineup for now, excluding the henkeli (4) and phantasticus (4) eggs im incubating at the moment:

6.6 wc phantasticus
3.0.3 cb phantasticus
1.2 sikorae sikorae
1.2 henkeli
2.2 pietschmanni

theres a young guy thats also breeding satanics in the mountains of nc, works with carolina specialty pets, and he had an awesome seemingly female satanic he hatched out in feb. very jealous of that one. thinking about going up there at some point to make a trade, ive told him im gonna go up there many times in the past but just never have the time to do it. LLL had one more female satanic that looked so friggin nice, but im really trying not to unload cash like i used to at these shows...but im seriously thinking about getting her if i go back tomorrow. decisions, decisions.

and you dont even have to say it eve...i will have pics up of the new guys ASAP!!!

::sigh::

sad but true.

Mad_1234 May 01, 2005 01:07 PM

I have have 8 herps right know and have my hands full. How can you manage all of those? You sure are a lucky guy to have all those Uroplatus, heck you could set up your own Uroplatus zoo.

umop_apisdn May 01, 2005 02:19 PM

that's the truth, and the herp guys at school pretty much know me as the gecko/leaftail guy. every once in a while someone walks up to me while im talking about leaftails (which is all the time), and says "hey...aren't you that guy with all the geckos from the wolfweb (an nc state student-run forum thingy)." kinda nice to have some recognition, you know... also, the NC herp society just had a meeting this weekend, which i opted out of to go to the reptile show, but they stated that they need to start some sort of husbandry aspect to the organization, and that our herp club at nc state is a good way to start it since we have me, and im actually an officer in the club for husbandry. it would be awesome to get recognized from an organization like that, and supposedly the guys i know there put my name out and there might be some people getting in touch with me soon.

so yea, it's been difficult to recognize my space limitations at the moment. i just bought 2 more tanks which im about to set up, and i really dont think i even have enough room for them, might have to get rid of the stereo speakers, tv, or something like that. oh, the sacrifices i make for my geckos! but i really do love em.

boy May 02, 2005 09:52 AM

Mike if you are looking for eban I'd be pissed if you looked elsewhere.. You know I'm cheap. Besides you should see what I just picked up for 40 a pop, I got a dozen.

Thanks for looking for cresteds for me. Total bummer but I think I'm maxed at the moment with geckos. I think the collection is at

9.10.1 ebanaui,
5.6 phants
2.2 lineatus
3.1 fimbriatus
1.1 sikoraes s./sameiti

umop_apisdn May 02, 2005 09:57 AM

yea i know jason, you're probably the #1 reason i didnt get it, reason #2 was the fact that im out of room. im thinkin about getting rid of a pair of my female cresteds so im only down to a trio, because all the people around here who said they'd buy babies backed out, everyone just wants to make trades. i really hate it when people back out on deals.

boy May 02, 2005 12:02 PM

Bro you're preaching to the choir on this one. I've had so many people back out of my chondros its killing me. I'm offering them at a cheap price because I just want them to go. Total pain in my rear because of it.

We should talk about those cresteds. maybe work out a deal or something.

Leah May 02, 2005 12:09 PM

Hey, if anyone is buying cresteds, they are buying them from us..

LOL.

well yea, the main thing here is im not experienced in shipping animals out, just receiving them. so id really prefer to find a friend with the $$$ to buy them. that way i also get to see them, since ive grown most of these up since they were little buggers.

the market's all your for now, leah

umop_apisdn May 02, 2005 12:28 PM

well i know im selling at least one to one of my friends, unless even she backs out on me. the thing is i dont think she really has the money for it. she already owes me $40 for nin tickets, shes thinking about buying some of my baby cresteds, and i would feel bad charging her as much as i think my females are worth since i really have a few lookers. decisions, decisions...

boy May 02, 2005 04:40 PM

Don't even talk to me about nine inch nails tickets. I missed out on their shows down here in LA because of work. I was soo bummed out too. I've seen them atleast 5 times and each time only got better.

Leah May 02, 2005 05:09 PM

I saw them about 4 years ago (fragile tour I think) from roughly 30 foot from stage. Hands down the BEST show I've ever seen. It was unbelieveable... you missed out!!

So, about them leaftails..

Try with David Bowie twice...

Then with Stabbing Westward

Jim Rose Side Show Circus and Marilyn manson (More performance show that anything else).

And finally with Perfect Circle.

I gotta say tool/perfect circle are not good live.

Jason

umop_apisdn May 02, 2005 06:51 PM

::gasp::

how could you put forth such blasphemy? unfortunately, tool's live show has simply dropped off in recent years. i saw them live around the time of aenima's release....fan-#$^%'in-tastic!

now maynard just hides in the shadows, the whole image thing has gone too far... meh

umop_apisdn May 02, 2005 06:49 PM

i saw them on the fragile tour with apc too. i was a huge tool fan back in high school, but my interest really dropped off after lateralus. nine has always been good. this will only be my 2nd time seeing them live, but the small venue makes me very optimistic, along with the fact that tix were selling for ~$150 a pop on ebay and the fact i get to go with a couple of friends. my one buddy was trying to tell me i should have bought 4 tix instead of 2, but i didnt listen to him. coulda made a killing, or at least put some friends in debt!

boy May 03, 2005 10:07 AM

My parents paid the same for tickets in San Francisco this past weekend. They said it was the best out of all the shows they have seen from NIN. I personally don't think any show could top The further downward spiral tour with David Bowie and Prick. That was just awesome. They played eraser and reptile with 4 drummers... you can't top that.

Tool is terrible live - it was all image, no encore either.

Jason

umop_apisdn May 03, 2005 12:24 PM

that's it! you just lost any chance of ever getting any leaftails from me in the future!

boy May 03, 2005 02:18 PM

Well I can play that game too. What will it be like when you don't get anymore at my wholesale prices...

:-P

PHEve May 03, 2005 01:45 PM

They are all doing quite well. I lost one female the third day, not a surprise. Two have fairly bad mite cases. Bummed me out but olive oil is a god.

I have some lookers. Ooooweee do I. I haven't done my cherry picking on them yet but I will be keeping most of them I think. Mike G. will be getting some great ones too. I'm going to be picking up some extra for his collection as well. I'll be ordering another 12 soon.

Hopefully some pietschmanni will come in too.

As for the rest of the collection, most seem to be doing well. Breeding season was a bust. Nothing hatched and I've still got 7 waiting. I'm going to drop a few hundred on a good lab grade incubator because we have too many temperature and humidity fluctuations down here in LA LA land.

There was a guy who was going to buy my green tree pythons but that was a bust. Thats the only thing that needs to go.

Anyways, glad to hear about your little ones and their eggs.

Jason

PHEve May 06, 2005 10:05 PM

your referring to, a lab grade incubator, what kind is that and how good are they?

I just had a long converstion with a friend the other night, as I am NOT satified with the ole standard hovabator. Room I have it in is fairly stable, but it does not appear to be, its a couple years old, and In my opinion fluctuates too much.

I would like to invest in a GOOD one, maybe will get it as a Christmas gift this year. I just dont know how much a REALLY accuate one would cost????

I breed collareds and other agamas. But have over 20 eggs now with many more coming before the season is over. So not only am I looking for a GOOD incubator, reliable, but Bigger also.
