Corn...good or bad?

SLeeVes Apr 30, 2005 10:27 PM

I read somewhere that corn is not a good choice to include in a uro's diet...why is that?

I ask because I just bought a can of Mazuri Tortoise Diet, and after bringing it home, I read the ingredients and found that it lists ground corn as the second ingredient. So should I not even bother using it, or is it not a big deal?

i am by no means an expert but i know douglas dix uses the same food so i would have to say it is good stuff. i looked at the beautiful dragons nutrition page and it seems like corn is high in phosphorous, which would be a reason not to feed it as often. but looking at the calcium to phosphorous ratio on mazuri webpage it seems to be pretty balanced.

Perhaps this was in reference to the cracked corn in bird seed mix. That corn should not be fed due to the sharp edges. Corn is only a small part of the Mazuri Tortoise food and I would agree with Vonnie that if Doug Dix uses it, it should be fine.

My egyptians love it. They dig through and find the pellets before moving on to their vegggies..
