Pandale Dirt

bigred1 May 01, 2005 03:45 PM

Last time out got 2 flat tires and had to retire for the night. Had old tires so that might have something to do with it. We plan on going again within 2 weeks and I was just wanting to know if anyone has info on past couple of years as far as catching gray-bands or other snakes. Thanks for any info or stories.

I've never found an alterna on any of the dirt sections, but I have found bairdi, subocularis, blacktails, atrox, and pictigaster on the dirt.

But never found one myself.

I had a rock go through a tire one night and pretty much gave on that road. The tire issue though was likely my fault, it was probably underinflated.

If you are going to collect on the dirt, then at least check your tire pressure first.

We got an alterna on Pandale paved just several miles before it runs into pandale dirt last year. I've never found that much on the dirt portion, tho I cant say that I have been down the road too many times!

Drove it once last year and was dissapointed, not a single snake (well at night anyway, saw lizards and a whipsnake during the next day). By the habitat it seems ideal, but who knows. I have always had more luck on paved roads than dirt, go figure. Maybe the snakes just like the feel of pavement or the fact that it absorbs more heat so hang out there for longer...
