Is he not purty? His name is He-Man. He's super strong, but he doesn't bite and after he calms down he is actually into being held. Anyway, I don't know what he is and I need all you skink experts to help me identify him.

The proper scienfic name is Tracheloptychus petersi/ common name is Peter's keeled plated lizard. Although at first glance one might assume it is a skink it is a Madagascan Plated Lizard. The Plated Lizard Forum will have more detailed care information without bias.
I knew someone here could help me find out about this beautiful lizard. Believe me I would not of stopped my search until I knew all about it. Thank you so much for putting me on the right track. I also left a message on the plated lizard forum, but most of the plated lizards I have seen or read about are not from the midwest which is where I was told this one was from. I am sure alot of these lizards are sold to children or clueless parents so I can see why I ruffled a few feathers not knowing about this lizard. I am a grandma and a mother of twin teenagers and we have a house full of reptiles, amphbians, cats, and dogs that we take very good care of and want to know about. Rambled on enough.
Not rambling on at all. The purose of forums is to allow exerienced/intermediate/novice/beginners of a species communication on husbandry & breeding, and general health care advice. The unbias care information from different keepers/breeders allow the complied information to be tried on your animals. What works for one breeder/keeper does not always work for others. The skink will show you what he/she likes generally and you go with it. But remmber that there is no substitue for veterinary health care or the purchase of quality Reptile books (loaded with information). If you have more questions just post or email as I am recovering from serious illness, thanks to new medications and treatments.
I see someone answered your question allready. I must say very nice looking lizard.
