Hatchling IJCP Pics

joeball May 01, 2005 06:12 PM

A few pics of the 3 IJCP's (out of 8 eggs)that I was able to hatch. Out of the clutch I lost a perfectly formed and pigmented baby about a week before these hatched. I also had 2 very strange looking (major cranial and spinal deformities, no eyes) embryos. One died about halfway through the incubation process and the other I found alive when I manually pipped the egg. It was promptly euthanized. It was however, amelanistic, showing only white and orange pigment. Thought I had hit the jackpot when I first saw it. I'm guessing the pigmentation was probably linked in someway to the other defects. Anyone else every have any babies that were similar?

Not using an incubator and setting up a naturalistic environment for the female to do her thing. I have realized 100% egg hatching with this method, and had completely healthy hatchlings. Whats interesting in my situation is that I sold the breeding pair to an experienced dealer and he used the old incubater method and did not have a 100% hatch rate. Just a thought, mother nature has refined the breeding process why try to compete with a system that works. Good luck next year!
