Ackies rule

nogard May 01, 2005 08:21 PM

I have never owned a ackie or seen one up close but a friend of a friend has three and I checked them out today, they are a energy bomb.
I get the ackie craze now, but the reason I posted was because I am interested in getting a trio, I have read two books that I own, Popular Monitors and Tegus, and Monitors, Tegus and related lizards, how accurate are these books?
thanks
tony butler

Both are "petstore monitor books", not worth referring to for captive care or accurate updated info period.
The best books period on captive care of monitors are Daniel Bennetts savannah monitor book and Fausts nile book. Feed a basis of calcium/D3 supplemented crickets, lots of them, high temp basking spots (150-195f for adults). Ask for specific details on care here.
Ackies are awesome!!!
