dud male milksnake?

alkaline3138 May 01, 2005 10:37 PM

I have a trio of sinaloans. A younger pair of vanishing patterned
and an adult female. The pair are related the second female is not. The pair are above the minimun breeding size as well as over 2 years old. The male will not breed with either of the females and yes I've checked the sexes and they were brumated and they all shed out and eating rather well. after the male refused to breed to either of the female sI took the none related female and put her with a seperate male and they bred immediatly, promting me to believe that the male is a dud I was wondering if there was anthing I could do to stimulate the male more because I want to preserve the vanishing pattern with the offspring but I also don't want to miss a years clutch from the female. thanxs chris

I live on the West coast, and out here Sinaloans breed later than most other colubrids. Perhaps the male in question isn't quite ready yet? I wouldn't call him a dud based on one incident. Don't give up on him yet, and there is always next year.

I think your right about breeding later mark. After I left this message I was doing some late night cleaning and noticed that both the male and the female were shedding a third time since I took the out of brumation in march so I'm excited to see if they will breed afterwards. Thanxs for the help.
