Female boa drops 1 baby !

JasonReese May 01, 2005 11:06 PM

I have heard of ball pythons laying 1 egg then a day or 2 later laying the rest of the clutch, but I never heard of a boa constrictor doing this.
OK here is the scenario, Thursday the 28th I see her drop her pre-birth waxy stool late in the afternoon. Late Saturday night the 30th about 2:30am I find her curled up in her cage with a single newborn, & no other sign that she just gave birth (no waste, no slugs, or even much residue.) The neonate was alittle pre-mature but seems to be doing alright otherwise. Today Sunday the 1st is exactly 100 days after her POS, & still nothing.
Should I believe that she just drop one early & will drop the rest of the litter or is there something more going on here?
I am at a lost right now & would appreciate any knowledgeable input. I almost forgot the female is 5 years old almost 7 foot & this is her 2nd litter, last year she had 21.
Thanks, Jason.

It has happened to me once before, but mine gave birth about 24 hours later. If she looks like she is trying to deliver and can't, I would take her to the vet asap.

36 Hours after dropping the 1st one & still nothing.
Jason.

If that ever happened to my boa, I would have taken her to the vet already.
that is strange that has happened. What was her normal birth date?
Never know if she is stuck on a slug.

I talked to Jeff Ronne and several others this last season when i had an albino female do the same thing, she dropped a single salmon baby shortly after having a stool, atleast a good 15 days before she had the rest of her litter which were all perfect healthy babies. your snake is prolly fine, just was a bit full and squeezed one out by accident, some times i have heard they can have 2 or 3 on accident then stilld eliver a normal litter at the right time.
