**HELP** Bent/Zigzag spine, what is it

lgorbaty May 02, 2005 08:36 AM

I just got an albino everglades rat hatchling. On two occasions, I observed him laying in a state where his body was sharply zigzaged (with 'sharp corners' VVVVV), as if he was 'broken' every inch or so. Shortly after each observation, he looked normal, and was slithering about fine.

??????

As a bit of ?related-unrelated? background, this bugger managed to escape out of his quarantine tank the first night, and was found in the garage much later that day, on top of a cold concrete floor, dirty with spider webs...

That is "normal" behavior, well, more so for some species than others- if you go to the Asian Rats section and look at Blue Beauties you will see them "zig-zagging" quite a lot-

But in any case- it's a defensive display, indicating tension, I don't know if it helps them strike further or flee faster, but it means the snake is tense for some reason...no harm, it is voluntary on their part...
