Savnnah feeding

Niloc86 May 02, 2005 02:53 PM

I have a savannsh monitor and he is about 12 inches now. I asked at another forum how much he should be eating. The response was 12 crickets a day plus a fuzzy. His stomach is almost dragging the ground. Is he being fed too much? I was thinking about feeding him only every other day or just twice a week. Would this be okay? If you have any other suggestions please let me know.

with saying something precise when talking about a living thing rather then a wind up toy.

The precise, spot on, whatever you want to call it depends greatly upon you, your husbandry, setup, and your animal.

Obviously if your feeding it and you see it get fat maybe that is telling you something? does it mean your feeding to much or not offering something to give it the ability to grow and use the food?

Take all the methods that are working for others to use as a base, then adapt them to your specific situation.

What I think Jody is trying to say is figure out how much food it needs.
What I do with baby savs, and this doesn't work for everyone, is to feed as many dusted roaches or crickets as it wants twice a day, with a pinkie twice a week. They are always fat after feeding but then they bask, wander around and dig.
By next feeding, they are no longer bloated.
Give them the right conditions to digest and work off the food and they will eat alot.

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

If it's fat after it gets done feeding, then thats fine cause it has a full tummy. The problem is it takes a crap and it's still resembles a nurf football, then it is obease. A monitor that young shouldn't have that problem unless your doing something terribly wrong or it has something wrong with it. But i'm no expert as FR and others are, i'm just talking from my experience with my Sav and listening to others stories.
