esoteric May 02, 2005 04:12 PM

My ocellated girlie is laying eggs right now
Fifth one as I type this! All look good so far and she's got quite the volume to lose.

oh that is so exciting! is that brittany who is laying? i always get your massive number of uros confused. now comes the fun part, keeping them alive to hatch!

Yup, this is Brittany. You saw the press release a few weeks back that she's pregnant, right?

THIRTEEN eggs so far and she's still going. Whoopse, FOURTEEN. Mind you, this girl is only 160g and the volume of the eggs seems to exceed the volume of the lizard! Big time weight loss.

These are officially Brittany x Evil Bastard.

Looks like she's run out at FIFTEEN. Her turning radius has greatly improved, I notice

it's amazing what can come out of them. did she stop eating towards the end? ivan usually gets so fat and full, she cannot eat anymore.
i did see the press release. i can't believe they printed that about a uro you better have some calcium and a treat waiting for her when she is done.

You know, pop culture and the press are strange. I can't help what they pay attention to.

This is completely weird, she's moved a huge amount of sand out of the males hiding space and placed it in the main area she was laying in. The interesting thing is that I removed the eggs as she was taking breaks so that the area wouldn't clutter up too much and she wouldn't damage them.

If I would have known she was going to do this today I would have brought her flowers. I snipped two off the tree for the other guys this morning. I'm thinking a couple other Uros might be gravid too...

hmm, i guess she thought the sand was not deep enough, or she was getting back at EB for doing that to her
wow, you already have alot of little feet in the house. i can't imagine what it is going to be like if all the eggs hatch

Well, she continued compulsively and excavated the entire subterrainean environment for hours and placed it on top of the main site and only nibbled on some food following that. There's seriously just a huge pile of sand there and almost nothing else left to sleep in. This very much reminds me of that scene in Close Encounters of the Third Kind! "This means something..."

The spectacle drew quite a bit of attention at work seeing as this was all occurring on my desk...

ha ha, that must be some sand structure. it is good to know she wanted them to be well protected. i wonder how large the pile would have gotten if she had had more sand?
so are all 15 eggs sold to your co-workers after them witnessing that? are you incubating them there?

No clue how big it could be... she's quite the earth mover. Need to get a proper cage together for the macfads immediately, I guess!

Nope, no sales, just fascination. I'm not counting my Uros before they hatch

That is the best name for a lizard I've ever heard! I laughed out loud.

Congratulations on all the eggs- bet she's a happier camper now!

That's wonderful!! Congrats to you and your little exhausted Brittany! It seems extra special, too, since they're Sudanese - not so common. Keep us updated on how she's doing and how the eggs are coming along.

Congratulations, that is excellent news. The little girl must be exhausted. I hope the incubation goes well and that you are posting baby pics in a few months. Good luck!
