Wild caught toads

DerekB May 02, 2005 10:03 PM

I live just south of Dallas, TX. I flushed a hole in my back yard yesterday and 8 toads were in there. I put them back in their hole. This is the second year in a row they have been in this hole. I use this forum alot because I have a corn snake. Now the questions. What kinda toad is it most likely to be? Do they make good pets? Can I cage more than one together? Sexing? Breeding? Just looking for everything I need to know.

Thanks,

Derek

If you live in Texas they're most likely Texas Toads. I think down near the southeastern part of the state they have Gulf Coast toads (dark brown & beige). I have one Texas toad. You can keep more than one in a tank without worrying about agressive behavior, but you will have more frequent tank cleanings. For housing I think 5 gallons per toad is suggested. LOL!
