B&W and A red Breeding?????

Herp-fever May 02, 2005 10:49 PM

Hello All,

I do not post that often, but this afternoon I witnessed copulation between my male Arg B&W Tegu and my female red. I do not see anything on the internet about this and I am wondering if anyone has produced successful clutches. Obviously, I do not know if it was successful yet but I figure it might be wise to start planning just in case. They are both 2 years old and have been raised together aqnd get along great. I was just wanting to see what people thought.

Thanks

Eric

That would be very interesting. The red X blues are interesting but this would be a cross between the two biggest species! Possible hybrid vigor may produce offspring larger than both parent species.

Now that's cool!

I wonder what the color would be like, especially since my red male has lost a lot of his juvenile black striping and is getting redder by the shed. How about a BIG black and red tegu!

Hope you get eggs. Do your homework on incubation and get things ready just in case. I'd love to see the offspring of such a cross.

Good luck!

I read about this about a year ago, and a couple times since then. Obviously the bluexred cross is pretty big and very successful. Most the cases I have read about b/w and red tegus breeding were successful leading to offspring, however there was a commong problem I read about. BluexRed crosses are able to breed themselves and have offspring making it second generation RedxBlue cross. All the cases I read with a black and white, the offspring came out with deformed looking genitalia, or genitalia hanging out exxternally with obvious visual problems. The babies were not able to breed and have their own babies. This isn't necessarily the worst thing in the world. Just means you have a bunch of mule lizards.
