hey i had recently aquired two female mossies at the show this weekend and got curious about the bigger[5in body] one with no tail. her toes seemed a whole lot longer than my others, not as webbed as my other mossies. so i checked her inner mouth and it turns out shes a sameiti. so i decided to check out and compare all of my mossies and it seems that they all have a different amount of black in their throat except for my male and one of the new females. my long term female is very healthy, chubby, and has big chalk sacks. she has been layin infertile eggs for the past two months. her mouth has a slight touch of black all the way at the back of her throat. my male has twice as much black in his throat as her. and one of the females that i picked up has the same amount of black as my male, and the sameitis throat is all flesh colored. now im thinking that im not just dealing with two different subspecies here. is there anyone who has a large group of mossies that has made this comparison. im going to post some pics when i get a chance

im thinking that the pair that i have had for over a year are two different subspecies, because of subtle differences. my males belly is mostly all orange and black. my female has the slightest hue of orange. one of my new females with the same amount of blackness in her throat as the male has the same amount of orange on her belly as my male as well. im thinkin that this is why she is layin infertile eggs, and also why not to many people out there are havin success with breedin mossies.

yeah i was thinking the same thing about not having success breeding. thats why i dont have a pair of each kind of leaftail. I wanted to just get a real lota mossies to breed. i got 4 and one died. I woulda got another but i hada get a wife for my lineatus lol hes lonely. and about the stomach my mossies have pink stomaches with black dots and the weird mossy i have i was talking about has all pink stomach

it seems to me with mossies there a few different subspecies
so far theres sikorae, samieti, and that diego one from the uroplatus book
i bought 3 to breed and it seems like each one is different. one normal, one samieti, and one thats half the size of my other mossies, has bright yellow eyes with none of that dark coloring like normal mossies, has a lot rougher texture as the other ones, has a stronger grip like cork barks, and acts a lot different then the others in a lota ways. that discription sounds like a regular mossy unless you see him. hes one of the ones that michael cole thought might be allauadi

i talked to michael about those supposed "alluaudi." it's gonna be pretty hard to mix up alluaudi with any kind of sikorae...but he just happened to get some that didnt fit the normal bill for sikorae. its gonna be tough finding out if theres anymore subspecies till we get a) some DNA analysis, b) information reguarding locality of our imports, or c) better studies of these animal populations in the wild.

well my male and new female are smaller; longer, have big paws for their body size, a more cryptic pattern, more black in their mouth, a real orange belly, and more yellowish eyes. my long term female is pied; has a wider body, just a touch of black in her throat, a light pinkish belly, darker eyes, more of a beard and shes also about six inches long(longer and a lot heftier than my male). but all of the mossies have stripes on the backside of their rear legs.
