? Alli death

wing May 03, 2005 07:31 AM

I've been taking care of Alligator snappers for 3 years now and I had no problem with them but recently, 2 of my alli died nd I don't know what caused it. Maybe you guys can help me figure out what happend:

They are both housed separately in a big square plastic container with nothing in them. I feed them coi fish food and sometimes live fishes. And at least every week, I clean their enclosure with hot water and on occassions, soap. The things that really boggles me are: 1) The only species that died in the room are my alligator snappers. 2) I can't think of anything that could've killed them because their set up was so safe. Just a barren square enclosure with food. The smartest thing I can think of is that there may be some bacteria or virus that only affects alligator snappers in my place...? But that sounds a bit off.

Water Temp?
Basking Temp?
What kind of live fish?
Anything in the tank?

Without this info, my best guess is possibly the soap. I'm not sure though, the other info would help.

I didn't include those because the other allis I have have the same set up and temps for the last 3-4 years now and they are all fine. I'm sure there is nothing wrong with it and we are having a really fine weather and temp where I am.

As for the fish, typical minnows...

"Anything in the tank? "

As for the tank, like I said in my first post, nothing in it but water. And it can't be the soap because I only use that once a week and, of course, I make sure that no soap is left after I wash their enclosures.
