Water Phobia

kimusubi May 03, 2005 09:04 AM

My snake seems to be very afraid of water. She won't ever bathe in it, and she doesn't really drink it either. Very few times, where she'll go to the edge and suck what's on the edge. What do you guys think I should do to get this fear taken away? Thanks for the help.

Nothing unless it's a seasnake. I don't think it has a fear, some snakes like water more than others but Boas aren't watersnakes.

I agree with bthacker. I've had some boas that will soak all the time in their water bowl, and others that will NEVER soak. It's different from animal to animal. Some just like it or enjoy it more than others. For the most part mine only soak for a day or two before shedding occurs. Whatever water habit they have is normal because it varies soo much. Your snake does drink water, you most likely just don't see it while it happens. Just make sure your changing the stale water out as often as you can or every 2 days or so. They LOVE fresh water.

Every snake is a learning experience...they're all different. Enjoy!

Well, my vet told me to give her a bath every 7-14 days, she's does not go near the water, and I'm serious. When I say fear, she pretty much jerks away from the water when I bring it towards her, or if her head gets too close to it. I've watched her a lot, and it's possible that she's drinking the very few times I'm not looking. Also another thing I was wondering, should I feed her tap water or drinking water?

I only use filtered water for my boas.

Would drinking water make any difference than tap water? Or is it just your preference to use filtered water?
