baby...

I am planning on going to the pet store today to buy a baby...I fell in love with him/her last night...I do have the set up...just hoping for any advice that would be helpful dealing with a hatchling...the one I have now was allready seven inches when I got him...this one is much smaller....

Also, it looked like they had a jar lid filled with baby food in the tank...could that be what it was and why???
the person I talked to didn't have much info since they just arrived and I was only asking questions out of curiosity at the time...
thanks...

I don't recommend getting a baby bearded dragon from a petstore. Also, if it is smaller than your dragon when you bought him, its a good chance the baby at the pestore is too small to sell. The smaller and more fragile looking the bearded dragon is, the less chance it will survive. Hatchlings tend to have a much higher mortality rate than dragons that are more established and at least 6" long or longer.

Whatever goop the petstore was feeding, be it baby food or mush, isn't the right food baby bearded dragons should get. They need pinhead crickets, feed 3 times a day with regular mistings to keep them hydrated. Even if there is a water dish in the cage, they don't always drink from a container. You will be better off buying a dragon from a local breeder or reptile show. One that is active, alert and 6" or more in length.

I knew they have a higher mortality rate...I didn't think they should be fed baby food but perhaps the store is suplimenting for just now...I do know they only had larger sized crix, the small they were out of, although you would think they would prepare ahead knowing they are getting lizards in and order crix ahead of time...I know a breeder would be better but someone will buy these, why not me at least I will do everything I can to provide a good home and healthy environment including vet care...I'm just hoping for any advice that could be helpful...
