I especially like that licorice black rat.

lbrat May 03, 2005 07:12 PM

Yea,that Licorice is down the road as soon as the next herp.show comes around.I bought it as a female, turns out to be a male.I don't need another male although I could someday breed it to the female lucy. But I have a male lucy for that and besides what would I do with a clutch of double hets.?Probably woulden't be able to tell a Lucy. from a licorice Lucy. anyway!

That's too bad. I could probably use a female as I expect my male to be ready to breed in another year or so. Good luck finding a good home for that guy.

Do all black rats come out looking like that one, really nice! Seems like the one in the pic above isnt the same look, maybe its the angle?

Kevin Saunders May 04, 2005 02:51 PM

Mine is younger so it doesn't have as much contrast yet. As hatchlings, licorice black rats are pinkish with yellow/brown backs. As they get older, the sides turn white and the dorsal scales darken.

I see...well they sure look nice babies or adults.

That is a very cool pic. I love the contrast between the lic stick and the blonde. It almost looks like a copperhead in its colors and pattern.
