She's slowly getting there...

Barry Miller May 03, 2005 09:34 PM

I think the hardest part about breeding Surinames is waiting for them to grow up. I bring them along real slow. This is one of only two wild-caughts in my collection. She's about four years old and six feet long now. I probably won't breed her next year, her head being so small says to me that she's not mature enough yet. She sure is a pretty snake, isn't she?

I have heard other people mention this same thing before. I have two suri females. One is 3 yrs old the other is 4. The four year old has a very broad head that just kinda looks chunky whereas the 3 year old has a more slender head. I imagine this is what you're talking about but isn't the size of their head kind-of a subjective trait that two people can dispute? I just wonder if the head of my 4 year old is big and chunky or if it just looks that way because, like was mentioned, I can't wait for her to be all grown up. I'll try to get some pictures of the two suri females I have for comparison.
Beautiful snake by the way. I love the rainbow of colors the suris have.
