Looking Into Getting A Monitor Need Some Help

OneTwoManyHerps Jul 11, 2003 01:45 PM

Hi, my name is tyler and i am an avid herper and have kept herps since I was 6 yrs old. I am looking for a larger monitor with a price up to 125. I would like suggestions from you guys on a good type of monitor and what that monitor needs as in lighting cageing and accesories in the cage(substrate, rocks, logs, etc)

That 125 is definatley the cheapest part of owning one of these reptiles. For others to better answer your question you have to tell them what size monitor you are looking for when its an adult, if you have an enclosure now,if so what size, etc. You have to try to narrow it down some.

I don't have a cage as of right now because I am going to build one when I get the info on the monitor I am looking for. I would like the herp to be about 4' when adult and would also like it to be semi-docile or even more than that. Pleas give any advice even if it doesn't totaly match my description! Thanks

but mabe some of the more experienced folks here will be able to answer your questions.

You could get a savannah which is very inexpensive, ususally docile, and use the extra $ for the enclosure. It gets about 3ft.

A white throat- appx 4-5 ft fyll grown, pretty docile
Black throat- appx 5-6ft pretty docile
Argus- pretty docile, averages 3.5-5ft

All of them as adults would utilize a 8ft x 4ft enclosure, but bigger is better. Like I said maybe someone else will fill in with opinion....
Hope this helps
